課程概述

This is a beginning course in Mandarin, there’s no prerequisite for this course. This class is designed to help students acquire Knowledge of spoken and written Chinese and to assist them in gaining proficiency and accuracy using these skills in real-life situations. The curriculum emphasizes developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, especially regarding topics of daily concerns.
For the first two weeks, the course will focus on foundation work, (“Pinyin “system, tones, structure of characters. ): this stage is essential for later progress in all other aspects of the language. During the semester, students will learn to greet others, introduce themselves, and handle basic social situations: talk about themselves, needs and preferences, buying things. The course aims to enhance abilities to:

1. Pronunciation and intonation.
2. Learn grammatical principles of Chinese language.
3. Converse on personal topics.
4. Read short narratives and descriptive texts.

課程目標
After finishing this course, students can
1.熟悉漢語拼音。(To be good at Hanyu Pinyin.)
2.學生能讀、寫正體字。(To know how to read and write traditional Chinese characters.)
3.「聽、說」能力達各課標準。(Listening and speaking ability reach the level required.)
4.習得處理日常生活事務的基本表達能力,如能得體使用華語等。(Learn how to use proper Chinese to express him/herself, what they like/dislike, what they needs, and communicate with others.) 
課程要求
學生應該:(Students should)
1.多說華語。(Speak as much Chinese as you can.)
2.實體課:每次上課都要簽到。(Classes in Person: Sign your name when attend the class.)/線上課:每次上課都要開鏡頭。(Online Classes: Turn on your camera in class.)
3.複習當日學過的生詞或文法,按時完成作業。作業字體必須工整,並按時繳交。(Review what have been taught; do homework and submit it ON TIME. The homework should be in handwriting instead of computer-typing.)
4.繳交功課:實體課學生請直接交給老師,線上學生請上傳PDF檔到NTU COOL. (Submit your homework directly to your teacher. Online students: Upload PDF file to NTU COOL.)
5.以完整的句子回答問題,發音必須清楚。(Answer the questions in complete sentence(s), and with clear pronunciation.)
6. 預習老師指定部分。(Preview what have been assigned.)
背誦每課課文。(Memorize the dialogue in each lesson.)
7.上課不遲到、早退。(Be in class on time, leave after talking to the teacher.)
*遲到二十分鐘就算缺課一小時,平時成績會被扣分。(Late for 20 minutes is equivalent to 1 hour absence and the attendance score will be deducted.)
8.週末時跟(台灣)朋友出去玩,認識台灣。(Try to go out and have fun with (Taiwanese) friends during weekends.)

學生不可以: (Students are NOT allowed)
1.考試時作弊。(to cheat while having tests or exams.)
2.上課時用英文或自己的母語跟其他同學聊天。(to chat with classmates in English or their own language during the class.)
3.上課時使用手機或其它可上網之電子產品。(to use mobile, iPad or any other devices getting online doing irrelevant things during the class.)

注意(ATTENTION):
1.每次上課時都有聽寫或是小考。(There would be dictation or quiz EVERY TIME.)
2.不交作業時,該份作業為零分。(Homework: no submission, that grade is “0”)
3.沒有補考。(No make-up test.)
4. For a respective environment for all, NO speeches/acts of discriminations.
* Please avoid any speeches/acts containing discriminations regarding nationality, cultures, genders, sexualities etc. 請避免任何與宗教、國籍、種族、性別、性傾向等相關的歧視言行。

PARTICIPATION: Students are expected to preview the materials before class, and review them after class on a daily basis. Previewing the vocab., and the grammars doesn’t take very long but it will help students learn much faster in class and be able to participate more. Fully engaging in conversations and activities in Chinese is the best way to learn! Students’ class performance grade takes into account the effort to speak in Chinese and students’ active participation in class.

出席暨課程參與(Attendance & Participation)

以學生平時課堂中表現給予成績。但學生若沒有事前請假卻缺課,此項成績將會被另外扣分,缺課時數每小時以1分計算。 (The students would be graded according to their performance/participation in class. However, if a student is absent from class without noticing the lecturer in advance, this grade would be deducted 1 point per hour.)
